Pinched Nerve Relief in Elizabethtown

Wrist painA pinched nerve is a common term for a nerve compressed or irritated, often due to issues stemming from the spine. The exact cause can vary, from mechanical issues within the joints to inflammation, arthritis, or disc dysfunction.

What Are Some Causes?

The most common causes of pinched nerves include:

Mechanical Issues - If the bones within the spine are misaligned or not functioning properly, they can cause inflammation in the joints, leading to a pinched nerve.

Disc Dysfunction – Discs act as cushions between the bones. If these discs swell or rupture, they can press into a nerve, causing discomfort.

Arthritis – Arthritic changes can lead to deterioration in the joint and excess calcium buildup, which can encroach on the nerve.

Common Symptoms

Symptoms may vary depending on the location of the pinched nerve. In the neck, symptoms typically involve radiating pain, numbness or tingling down the arm, and into the hand and fingers. If the pinched nerve is in the lower back, similar symptoms can be experienced down a leg, into the calf or foot. Additionally, a pinched nerve can cause muscle spasms in the area, as muscles tighten to prevent further aggravation.

Our Approach to Treatment

Our priority is to identify the cause of the pinched nerve, rather than simply treating the symptom. We specialize in treating mechanical reasons, such as bone and joint dysfunction, swelling, inflammation, or mechanical pressure on the nerve.

We also support patients with arthritis, provided there’s enough room for the nerve. However, in cases where arthritic changes have left little to no room for the nerves, our treatments may not be effective.

For disc problems, our treatment can be beneficial in the long run, but for acute or sudden onset disc issues, we usually suggest other medical interventions.

Evaluating and Tailoring Treatment Plans

Remember, the focus shouldn’t be on the pinched nerve itself, but rather what’s causing it. By understanding the root cause, we can provide more targeted, effective chiropractic treatment solutions. We’re here to guide you through this process, offering hope and personalized care every step of the way.
